The center of the story is the life of Albert Virozemsky, a swindler and a thief. In order to avoid the death penalty, he has agreed to sell his soul to the devil, but for one reason or another, the contractt signed in blood failed to work – and on a certain autumn day of year of 1641, Albert is burned at the stake in the middle of the Lviv Rynok Square.
