Klezmer spring comes to Ukraine! Very soon Kiev will be transformed into the world capital of klezmer music. The long-awaited Kyiv Klezmer Fest starts with the high-profile premieres: the cult Dutch “Amsterdam Klezmer Band”, New York clarinet maestro David Krakauer’s “Ancestral Groove” and the Israeli polka-punk MALOX (saxophonist Balkan Beat Box Eyal Talmudi) will come to Ukraine for the first time. They will be joined by the musicians of Kiev’s “Pushkin Klezmer Band” and several other Ukrainian groups. The free open air will be held on May 12 and 13 at Kontraktova Square. And from 7 to 13 May throughout the city there will be exhibitions, film screenings, master classes and parties dedicated to contemporary klezmer music and Jewish culture.
